SASSI-CAYAS
The exceptional blend now available for pre-order
We are happy to announce the long-awaited arrival of the 2022 vintage of the Sassi Grossi CAYAS blend. This prestigious wine, available for pre-order now and expected to be released at the beginning of December, brings together the essence of two iconic Swiss Alpine terroirs, Ticino and Valais, in a blend of Syrah and Merlot. The marriage between the warmth of Ticino and the strength of the Valaisan mountains creates a bold and harmonious wine that will undoubtedly captivate fine wine enthusiasts.
A Transalpine Collaboration for Excellence
The Sassi-CAYAS is the result of a unique collaboration between Gialdi Vini in Mendrisio and Domaine Jean-René Germanier in Vétroz, two historic Swiss winemaking families with a shared spirit. From vineyard work to sales, the same demands, the same passion for innovation, and the same love for sharing. By combining their land, know-how, and humor, they have defied geographic boundaries to bottle the Southern Alps.
Oenologists Gilles Besse, Richard Riand, and Alfred de Martin joined their expertise to create this exceptional wine, made from a selection of 13 barrels of Sassi Grossi and 13 barrels of CAYAS for the 2022 vintage. A blend that they have carefully nurtured to reach perfect balance, aiming for complexity.

The Merlot from Ticino, grown in sunny and temperate terroirs, offers fruity notes of blackberries, with hints of mocha and menthol.
The Valaisan Syrah, coming from drier and more mountainous regions, completes this blend with spicy nuances, particularly black pepper, and a complex aromatic profile that reflects the distinctive character of this emblematic grape variety.
The vinifications are carried out separately in Burgundy barrels. After long macerations, the blending took place on July 5, 2024, in Mendrisio, followed by bottling on July 29, 2024. This process gives the Sassi-CAYAS an incomparable intensity and elegance.
Sassi Grossi CAYAS Blend Tasting
The Sassi-CAYAS displays a ruby red color with garnet reflections. The nose is complex, combining aromas of black fruits such as blueberry and blackcurrant, with subtle notes of mocha and menthol. On the palate, the attack is fresh, giving way to a structured and well-balanced body, with flavors of prunes and black cherries. The richness of the ripe tannins supports a persistent and harmonious finish, marked by perfectly integrated toasted nuances.
The balance between fruity aromas and spicy notes gives this Sassi Grossi CAYAS blend a complexity and finesse that makes it a unique wine, ideal for pairing with sophisticated dishes. This wine is especially enjoyable with roasted meats, game, red meats, or aged cheeses. Served at room temperature between 16 and 18 degrees, it will reveal all its aromas.
